*Take “I” to be the protagonist.*

***************************

Busy-minded, whisked away, in another world, accessible only to few.

But I see you.  Your slumped shoulders endear. Your soft, stuttering voice calls.  Your tears are collected.  Your creaselines worry. Your sleepless nights haunt. Your uneven steps sober.  Your prayers balm.

Externals fade but are ever so real.

  1. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Trusting God that our externals are not “for naught”, though real and painful at the time, but are actually working for us, to achieve a salvation that far outweighs them. We can rejoice in our hearts because of this, and not despair.
